DESCRIPTION:Animal shelters across the country team up to host the National House Pawty fundraiser\nLive-streamed event aims to raise funds and spirits during era of social distancing \nOver 80 animal shelters and rescue organizations across the United States have joined forces to create the National House Pawty\, a livestreamed fundraiser set to take place on Facebook Saturday\, April 18\, from 6 to 9 p.m. Central Daylight Time.   The Siouxland Humane Society is happy to announce that we have joined this national pawtnership to raise funds and provide families in Siouxland with this awesome opportunity to join in the House Pawty from their own homes. \nThe event will feature a variety of entertainment ranging from interactive games to celebrity and athlete cameos to live music performances. Details of the event and participating organizations can be found here. \nBeginning April 14\, Individuals are encouraged to raise $250 for their favorite participating pet welfare organization to help event organizers reach their goal of raising $500\,000 nationally. The funds will be distributed to participating organizations that have had to cancel fundraisers and adoption events during the COVID-19 pandemic.   The shelter would love for anyone that is able\, to log on and select the Siouxland Humane Society as the beneficiary of a donation.  A donation of any amount will help the shelter to continue to provide the programs and services to those in need during this time by providing the means necessary to enable families to keep their pets in their homes during these financially difficult and uncertain times we are all facing. \nPurina\, a perennial supporter of organizations that help put people and pets together\, has stepped up as presenting sponsor of the National House Pawty.  \n“In the past month\, we’ve seen a huge increase in pet fosters and adoptions across the country\, but there is still a great need among pet welfare organizations” said Cat Small with the Purina Pet Welfare team. “At Purina\, we believe life is better when people and pets bond – even during difficult times. That’s why we’re proud to support this fundraiser and the shelters that connect people with pets.”  \nThe event traces its roots to St. Louis-based Gateway Pet Guardians. In 2016\, the organization livestreamed its first Slumber Pawty\, with volunteers spending the night in shelters to help long-term shelter pets get adopted while raising funds to support the cause of pet adoption. In 2018\, the group expanded the event to include 15 fellow shelters who livestreamed a variety of activities from shelters.      \n“We’re in the midst of a good-news/bad-news situation. June was picked because this month is the height of “kitten season\,” when millions of kittens are born and often end up in shelters. The Siouxland Humane Society would like to bring awareness how important it is especially during a “cat” a strophic to adopt an animal in need\, plus gives us the opportunity to provide a wider focus on the importance of having pets spay or neutered.   \nCats make fabulous companions: after all\, there is a reason they are most popular type of pet in the world outnumbering dogs by nearly three to one. Whether it’s a spunky young kitten or a mellow and cuddly adult cat\, chances are your local pet shelter\, small rescue organization\, or animal control facility has a wonderful cat- or two- for you. This “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month\,” You can make a difference for felines in need! \nIf you aren’t in the market to adopt a cat or kitten right now\, there are still plenty of ways for you to help!” says Kelly Erie\, PR-Volunteer Manager. Tell your family\, friends and neighbors about the plight of homeless cats in shelters and encourage them to get involved. Take to social media and spread the word about adoptable cats and kittens in your shelter. Reach out and see if they need any supplies. Donate in memory or in honor of someone special. We are the only non-profit open admission full-service shelter in Siouxland dedicated to animal welfare\, and we provide dozens of programs and services to help the people and pets in the community. This year we are focused on our Emergency Pet Vetting. \nOne thing we have noticed this year is the increase of pets coming into the shelter needing emergency vetting for one reason or another. Rather it is surgery for stones\, intestinal blockage\, dental work\, placing a pet on a special diet/food or insulin for a diabetic cat/dog in need. The unexpected costs add up quickly and can be quite deterring on any non-profit budget. \nWe do rely on our Fundraising efforts to help with the many needs of our shelter. This year has been quite trying and challenging as some of our events have been canceled due to Covid\, and that is why we and the critters need your help more than ever! You don’t have to own a pet\, or even bring them to participate – holiday photos of any kind are welcome. All proceeds from this event will go directly to help the animals in our care at the Siouxland Humane Society. \nSanta will be there to take photos with you as well – or if Santa isn’t your favorite holiday celebrity\, we can politely tell him to take a break for some milk and cookies during your photo time. (He can’t turn that down\, right?) But if Santa is your thing\, feel free to bring a letter for him to take to the North Pole! \nPaws N Claus will be from Wednesday\, November 18th through Sunday\, November 22nd. This year we will be at 823 Gordon Drive in the Woodbury Center strip mall by I-Hop. \nProfessional photographers will take pictures against a beautiful winter backdrop that are perfect for cards\, gifts or a lifetime memory of those you love. Better yet\, when you are finished with your session you will receive a memory card with your pictures on it so you can make copies as you wish! You will get all photos taken so you can laugh at the bloopers\, aww over the great ones and share with whomever you choose! Price is still just $35 for one session or $60 for two!
