June Adopt A Shelter Cat Month

June 1, 2018 @ 8:00 am - June 30, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

June can be “cat”astrophic with litters of kittens and cats arriving at the Siouxland Humane Society. The Siouxland Humane Society is promoting adoption of cats and kittens during June, National Adopt A Shelter Cat Month.

Why “cat”astrophic? Let’s take a look at how quickly cats can reproduce. Cats have an average of two litters of six kittens every year. What many people don’t know is that kittens can get pregnant as early as five to six months old. The gestation period (length of pregnancy) for a cat is 65 days. Warm weather triggers a female cat’s body into being ready for pregnancy. This is called going into ‘heat’. The first litters of kittens are born in the spring and a second litter in fall. It has been calculated that one unspayed female could produce 510 kittens over two years!!! Paw-lease spay and neuter your cats, the Siouxland Humane Society has many programs to help you get your kitty spayed or neutered, just give us a call!

“We are paw-sitive you will fall in love with our meow-nificent cats and kittens available for adoption.” Says Kelly Erie, Public Relations and Volunteer manager. “This month all cat and kitten adoptions are discounted, plus we are giving FREE toys, treats and a pet taxi with every adoption. All cats receive initial preventative vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter discount, Microchipping, and a free veterinary health examination!” Save a life: Adopt a cat!
