If you are considering surrendering your pet to the Siouxland Humane Society (SHS), we ask that you first let us try to help you with your situation so that you can keep your pet in your home.
The SHS has many resources available to help including Spay/Neuter Assistance Program, Pet Food Bank, Vet Assistance Program and Emergency Sheltering. Please call us at (712) 252-2614, ext. 0 to discuss alternative options.
Cats may be brought to the shelter by appointment only. By managing the intake of cats we can match the number of cats cared for at any one time with the kennel space available to eliminate overcrowding. This will assure that all the cats in the Shelter are given the best possible care with the least amount of stress.
To make a surrender appointment for your cat, you may stop by the shelter (without the cat) or call us at (712) 252-2614, ext. 0.
Dogs and other small animals may be brought to the Shelter Tuesday through Friday from 11:00am to 4:00pm, Saturday 10:00am to 4:00pm and Sunday Noon to 4:00pm. Since we rarely reach maximum capacity on dogs and other small animals, we are not requiring an appointment to surrender them at this time. If you have multiple pets to surrender please contact the shelter prior to bringing them in.
Please pre-register at our front desk before bringing in your pet. We ask that the person surrendering the animal be 18 years of age and have current picture identification. If you have a current vaccination record on your pet, please bring it with you. You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire about your pet asking about your pet’s preferences, feeding schedule, etc. The more honest information you can provide about your pet, the better the chances we can find it a forever home.
Pets are never turned away. Since we are a non-profit organization, we ask for a donation to partly cover the costs of caring for a pet while at the Shelter. We will waive all or part of the donation if you cannot afford to pay it. The Siouxland Humane Society is a non-profit organization, not a tax supported agency, and needs your financial contributions to partly pay for the care of your pet. Please remember that we find forever homes for all of the adoptable pets.
