We are highly dependent on help from our volunteers. Your willingness to join the Best Friends volunteer program makes a tremendous difference in the lives of Siouxland’s abused, neglected, and homeless animals. Best Friends needs volunteers in the following seven areas. Please place a check in the box next to the area of activity in which you would like to participate. Please remember each area represents a commitment of your time so choose only the areas you have a particular interest in. If you have a special talent or interest you're willing to share please let us know in the comments section. If you need more information regarding certain activities, please call Kelly at (712) 252-2614.Feel free to check up to 2 boxes, or a maximum of 3 if one area is fundraising.(Required) In-Shelter Animal Care such as walking dogs, socialization of cats or bathing and grooming animals. (Volunteer Orientation Required) Fundraising, e.g. Gourmet Apple Project, Quilt Auction, Pets On Parade Animal Walk/5K Run, Paws ‘n’ Claus Holiday Photo Project, Holiday Dog Biscuits, etc. Humane Educators, speakers for education and public relations, e.g. education for school children, service clubs and other organizations. (Sorry, Adults only.) Animal Advocates, a group of volunteers who write and/or phone various local & state officials on selected animal welfare issues. (Must have Email Address.) Pet-Facilitated Therapy entails on-site & off-site interactions with aged and disabled members of our community. (Sorry, Adults only.) Foster Care Program involves serving as a foster “parent” for animals awaiting adoption. Primarily litters of kittens or puppies. (Sorry, Adults only.) Out-Reach Programs, e.g. off-site adoption efforts to place animals at local businesses and venues and work with breed rescue groups in placement & transportation of animals; also, help with public promotions and education.
